Rural Health Clubs

Rural Health Clubs (RHCs) are university groups that provide medical, nursing and allied health students with the opportunity to learn more about rural lifestyle and rural practice. These clubs provide a forum for group discussion on rural health issues and the opportunity to learn about postgraduate careers from rural health professionals. They also provide support networks that nurture students who have come from the country to study in the city.

The RHCs in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are student-led and each club organises a calendar of events that is designed to expose members to rural health experiences. These experiences include rural trips, clinical skills sessions, rural conference attendance, Indigenous health awareness, networking activities, guest speaker sessions, and fund-raising events. There are also many opportunities during the year where the clubs get together to meet their peers from other universities.

Throughout the year there are also many social activities in addition to academic events. Joining a club is a great way to meet people from rural areas of NSW and ACT interested in health.

There are currently 11 rural health clubs based at universities in NSW and the ACT.
