Rural Practice Sustainability Training Grants
The Rural Practice Sustainability Training Grant aims to improve the viability and sustainability of rural practices by providing funding to practice managers and practice administration staff to upskill in business management. The grants are funded by the Department of Health & Aged Care, Rural Health Workforce Support Program and are administered through Rural Doctors Network (RDN).
Eligible practices can apply for up to $1000 per individual staff member with a limit of 2 staff members per practice per funding round. Applications are now open.
Read before applying:
Available to practice managers and non-clinical administration staff who are employed in private primary healthcare practice in a MMM 3-7 location in NSW and providing a minimum service of 24 hours per week. Activities undertaken by eligible staff of an Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) or Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHS) in MM 1 – 7 locations in NSW are also eligible. Applicants must apply for the grant prior to the educational activity taking place. Only 2 applicants/applications from a practice will be accepted per funding round.
What the funding covers and what's excluded:
Eligible Activities

Attendance at accredited education programs addressing specific aspects of business management for rural primary healthcare practices.
- Accessing professionally approved business management/performance consulting, advisory, training, mentoring, supervision, and coaching services
- Attendance at relevant conferences which address specific aspects of business management for rural primary healthcare practices
Applicants may apply for funding for the following expenses:
- Registration/course fees
- Consulting, advisory, training, and coaching services
- Travel (air, car, public transport) – must provide tax invoice, car travel will be paid at the ATO rate, which is currently .85c per km
- Accommodation expenses – must provide tax invoice and will be paid at the ATO Travel and accommodation rates for the location.
- Stand-alone claims for travel and accommodation are not eligible.
What's excluded:
- Overseas activities are not eligible for this funding.
- Clinical educational activities are not eligible under this grant.
- If funds are received from other grant sources for the same activity, the applicant will be ineligible to receive additional funding through this grant.
