Leeton will benefit from the rollout of a new initiative designed to reshape the way health services are delivered locally.

The Collaborative Care project, supported by NSW Health and facilitated by Rural Doctors Network (RDN), aims to identify the healthcare needs of the Leeton community and work together to create innovative solutions.

This collaborative approach will bring together health professionals, community members, Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN), and Leeton Shire Council to design a future-focused health service model.

RDN Community Project Officer for the Collaborative Care project, Maryann Iannelli, says the project has the potential to address important health care needs in Leeton.

“We are incredibly excited about the potential this project has to improve access to health care for everyone in Leeton,” Ms Iannelli said.

“By working together, the project will identify sustainable solutions that aim to improve access to care, reduce wait times, and provide a more integrated health service experience for all.”

Leeton Shire Mayor, George Weston, welcomed the opportunity to improve local health services and collaboration.

“We thank the NSW Government for their investment in the project and are delighted to have RDN facilitating the process,” Cr Weston said.

“Our most recent community survey reiterated the importance of health services to Leeton Shire residents and the Collaborative Care project provides a welcome opportunity to work together with key stakeholders - including the MPHN and MLHD - to consider any service or access gaps and how they can be closed,” he said.

Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, said “our goal is to ensure every resident in Leeton can access the care they need and that health care providers have sustainable solutions to ongoing challenges.”

Leeton residents will soon be invited to participate in a health services survey to help guide the direction of the project.
