On 26 July in Adelaide, the inaugural Primary Health Care (PHC) Congress brought together approximately 60 health leaders from medical, nursing, allied health and university peak bodies and professional organisations, along with representatives from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

The health leaders agreed that primary health care must include flexible funding that enables multi-disciplinary care across health systems and the need to increase the quantum of primary care funding to enable pro-active preventative care.

RDN is a founding member of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Alliance and RDN’s Sector Advancement Manager in Knowledge Mobilisation, Annette Lenstra, represented RDN at the inaugural Congress to consider priority areas. Of the ten areas identified by participants at the Congress, consensus was reached that four areas require priority government consideration: funding, workforce training, digital health as well as data and research.
