'Your Career Your Canvas': future Rural Generalists embrace the possibilities of a rural health career at RGEN24
4th June 2024
Recently, Rural Generalists (RGs) and prospective RGs, including 20 RDN Rural Resident Medical Officer Cadets, gathered in Orange for the RGEN24 Conference. Hosted by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) in collaboration with RDN and NSW Health, the event aimed to bring together RGs and medical students and interns with an interest in rural generalism to network and career plan. This year’s theme was ‘Your Career Your Canvas: Embrace the Possibilities’.
The two-day event included an inspiring selection of speakers, as well as a tour of the Orange Base Hospital, to convey the full breadth of opportunities available in rural health. Dr Louise Stone, GP & Associate Professor in Social Foundations of Medicine at Australian National University Medical School, presented the keynote address discussing the road less travelled. Participants were exposed to a range of topics including a showcase and celebration of different RG careers, tools for employment, lessons from the first year out and an advanced skill speciality panel. Keep an eye on RDN’s Instagram and Facebook for shared media content from the event.
