Twenty-five health professionals from Western and Far West NSW spanning local health districts, Aboriginal Medical Services, general practices and non- government primary care providers, participated in a free clinical skills Diabetes Education Workshop at Taronga Zoo in Dubbo recently.

The workshop was supported by the University of Technology Sydney, Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW and the Care Partnership-Diabetes program.

The workshop provided an opportunity for participants, including Aboriginal Health practitioners and others completing the graduate certificate in Diabetes Management, to develop clinical management and education skills to support patients living with diabetes and make connections with likeminded colleagues.

The day covered a range of clinical skills including cultural empathy in diabetes communication, the use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), conducting group diabetes education, HbA1c testing and more.
