RDN acknowledges 2024 World Optometry Week

This Sunday marks the start of World Optometry Week, 17-23 March, an annual event which shines a spotlight on the profession of optometry and the contribution of optometrists worldwide to increasing access to eye health care as a human right.

This Sunday marks the start of World Optometry Week, 17-23 March, an annual event which shines a spotlight on the profession of optometry and the contribution of optometrists worldwide to increasing access to eye health care as a human right.

RDN's Outreach Services Program Manager, Amanda Masset said, "As we celebrate World Optometry Week, RDN would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the optometrists we are privileged to work with. Your commitment to eye health and patient care in rural, remote, and Aboriginal communities is commendable. The Visiting Optometry Scheme (VOS) supported 69 optometrists to provide more than 14,000 occasions of service to patients across105 locations in NSW and the ACT during the past 12 months." 

VOS is funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care and administered in NSW and the ACT by RDN. 

This year, the World Council of Optometry (WCO) will celebrate the Week, and World Optometry Day on March 23, with the theme “Advancing Optometry’s Commitment to Global Eye Care.”
