RDN Doctors Honoured in King's Birthday 2023 Honours List


19th June 2023

Congratulations to the following NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) members, doctors and volunteers who have been honoured in the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List: 

GG_0Dr Ian Cameron - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to medical administration, and to rural and Indigenous health.

Dr Paul Collett - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to medical administration.

Dr Elizabeth Barrett -Member (AM) In the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to rural and remote medicine in various roles.  

Dr Diana Coote - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to medicine. 

Dr Clement Gordon - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to medicine, and to the community. 

Dr Stephen Morris - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to medicine. 

Ms Sophie Scott - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to the broadcast media, and to community health 

Dr Gregory Crosland - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division For service to dermatology, particularly in rural areas. 

Dr Gregory Smith - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) In the General Division for service to the community through social welfare organisations. 

Mrs Christine Corby OAM - Member (AM) In the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to Indigenous health, and to the community of Walgett. 

Mr Gary Smith - Member (AM) In the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to medical administration, and to professional organisations. 

Professor Michael KIDD – Officer (AO) In the General Division of the Order of Australia for distinguished service in medical administration and community health, to primary care leadership, and to tertiary education. 

These twelve individuals were amongst 1,192 Australians to be recognised across community service, science and research, medicine, industry, sport, the arts and more, including: 

  • 920 recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia 

  • 19 recipients of awards in the Military Division of the Order of Australia 

  • 199 Meritorious awards 

  • 54 Distinguished and Conspicuous awards

 

Invaluable support for rural health

Former RDN CEO, Dr Ian Cameron and former RDN Chief Medical Advisor, Dr Paul Collett, were both instrumental in the establishment of RDN and former RDN Director and current Clinical Advisor, Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Barrett played, and continues to play, an essential role at RDN.  

The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, David Hurley, passed on his congratulations to all recipients, describing them all as “outstanding”. 

“Recipients have made substantial contributions and had a significant impact at the local, national or international level…They are all inspiring and their service is valued by us all,” the Governor-General said.

RDN CEO, Richard Colbran passed on his congratulations and gratitude to all the recipients connected to RDN. 

“As RDN celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, I am delighted that these individuals have been recognised as part of the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List for the invaluable role they have each played in helping to support and advance rural and remote health in NSW,” Mr Colbran said.
