Applications open for 2023 Outreach Student Placement Program
4th April 2023
University students enrolled in a medical, nursing, midwifery or allied health degree in NSW or the ACT are encouraged to apply for RDN’s Outreach Student Placement Program.
Applications are now open and will close 23 April 2023.
The Program offers up to 100 selected students the opportunity to shadow an Outreach provider in a rural or remote community.
Christina Goodman, who completed the Program whilst a medical student at the University of Sydney in 2019, says she would “definitely” recommend it to students.
“I learnt a great deal from this opportunity,” Christina said. “The best part…was spending up to an hour with each client, shadowing the diabetes educator, which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the patient's views on their disease management.
“The placement opened my eyes to the way a multidisciplinary team can come together to deliver services, particularly by utilising telehealth as a delivery tool to link patients in a rural community with specialist medical advice,” she said.
The Program is open to urban and rural university students and applicants must demonstrate:
- an interest in rural practice and lifestyle;
- an understanding of the realities of rural health; and
- the motivation to undertake a placement in a rural area as part of the scheme.
