Additional funds targeting hearing health for Aboriginal children
31st July 2020
The Follow-up Ear and Hearing Health Services (FEHHS) program will improve patient access to hearing loss treatment and management by supporting additional specialised services such as audiology, speech pathology and ENT specialists. This expands on current services available through the Healthy Ears, Better Hearing, Better Listening (HEBHBL) program.
The additional services will focus on needs generated through the national Hearing Assessment Program – Early Ears (HAP-EE), or those that align with the target population (Aboriginal children aged 0-6 years in rural and remote communities). New services will be supported in line with the service delivery standards for the HEBHBL program.
The FEHHS program is funded to June 2022. RDN is now undertaking planning for this program and will be seeking input from local organisations to identify service gaps in each region and prioritise finite program funds.
