'Invaluable' outreach experience for med student

In September and November 2016, third year medical student and RDN Cadet Jenny Stokes, had the great opportunity to accompany Associate Professor John Eden, Gynaecologist and Reproductive Endocrinologist, on his monthly outreach gynaecology clinic in Moree’s Puis X Aboriginal Medical Centre.

Associate Professor Eden has been visiting the community of Moree each month for the past eight years with his internationally renowned knowledge of reproductive endocrinology with a special focus on menopause and PCOS.

Jenny said "It was such a fantastic experience, not only to see the vast range of gynaecological presentations from PCOS, infertility to abnormal uterine bleeding and menopause but also to see the workings of rural outreach clinics addressing the great gap in aboriginal and women's health."

Jenny commented on how the experience was a privilege in terms of "observing the science and true art of medicine".

"This experience was invaluable and has truly nurtured my passion for obstetrics and gynaecology as well as rural women's health."

"I'm very grateful to the NSW Rural Doctors Network, Dr Eden, Moree’s Pius X and Hunter New England Area Health Service for enabling these trips to occur," she said.
