Visiting dermatologist recruited for Far West
(23/9/13)
A much needed dermatology service has been secured for Broken Hill. With funding and support from the NSW Rural Doctors Network, the Far West NSW Medicare Local (FWML) has recently succeeded in recruiting a visiting Dermatologist for two days each month.
The FWML and Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) have worked together to enable a Dermatology Clinic to be provided at the Specialist Clinics at Broken Hill Hospital. An agreement with the FWLHD to host procedural services at the hospital specialist rooms will maximise access and service quality for the Broken Hill community. This arrangement highlights what can be achieved when health service organisations work in collaboration for the benefit of local communities.
Dr Michael Black held his first Dermatology Clinic in Broken Hill on 13 August. It is hoped the new Dermatology Clinic will reduce the considerable waiting period for this service over the next 12 months. Whilst it will take some time to address the existing waiting list, the Clinic is a major boost in services for Broken Hill.
