Advertising guidelines and tips
Guidelines
Rural Doctors Network (RDN) provides a no-cost vacancy portal for practices to advertise vacancies for GP/VMO positions. To maintain our rural NSW workforce focus, this service is available to all general practices in remote or rural NSW within the MMM 2-7 classification areas and ACCHOs in MMM1-7.
If you are unsure of your practice’s location classification, you can check it here.
To ensure your vacancy advertisement is compliant, please read the Anti-Discrimination and Advertising Guidelines.
Tips
The power of an advertisement that clearly describes the role and sells your practice to candidates cannot be underestimated. Include the history of the practice, it’s location/the town and what it has to offer, describing the team and most importantly the position duties in an honest and attractive way. Most people want to know their work will be challenging and rewarding.
Focus on why you are different – stand out from the crowd
Often candidates are overwhelmed with potential positions, with most adverts looking pretty much the same. Organisations that attract the best talent stand out by also including videos – often from current employees. Focus on benefits or perks you offer like discounted gym membership, no weekend work, opportunity for VMO work, flexible start and finish times, paid training days and anything else that makes your vacancy stand out from others.
Include high quality photos of your practice, the town and surrounding attractions to make your ad visually enticing. RDN’s vacancy portal allows three pictures to be uploaded.
Include a link to your practice website, Facebook page and other relevant links to the local region. Keep your advertisement to no more than one A4 page to ensure you don’t overwhelm your audience with information.
How to post your vacancy
To advertise through the RDN website you need to first register for a MyRDN Account or log in to your existing account.
Once you have uploaded your text and photos, click the submit button.
RDN will be notified of your vacancy upload and your RDN Medical Workforce Consultant will check the contents of each advertisement request before posting it on the vacancies website. If it is apparent some information is incorrect or misleading, the necessary edits will be made. If these edits are major, we will contact you to let you know.
