Advanced Life Support 2 (ALS 2) Workshop
Rural Doctors Network (RDN) hosts several Advanced Life Support 2 (ALS 2) workshops for health professionals each year. This highly intensive two-day course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced skills and knowledge in managing critically ill patients and cardiac arrest.
Who should attend?
This course is specifically designed for healthcare professionals who:
- Regularly apply advanced life support skills in their clinical roles.
- Are responsible for teaching advanced life support.
- Work in critical care environments (e.g., intensive care units, emergency departments).
- Are members of resuscitation/medical emergency teams.
- Work as paramedics.
Prerequisites:
- Prior skills and competence in CPR are essential.
- Candidates will receive the ALS 2 manual one month prior to the course and are required to complete a 120-question multiple-choice test before the course begins.
What does the event cover?
This fully accredited workshop, recognised by the Australian Resuscitation Council and accredited for CPD and PDP with the RACGP and ACRRM, provides in-depth training on:
- Recognition and Assessment: Refine your ability to recognise and assess deteriorating patients using the structured ABCDE approach.
- Cardiac Arrest Management: Master advanced techniques for treating cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation.
- Arrhythmia Management: Learn to manage life-threatening arrhythmias effectively.
- Post-Resuscitation Care: Prepare and plan for post-resuscitation care of patients.
- Special Circumstances: Develop skills for managing patients in cardiac arrest or experiencing deterioration in specific situations such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and pregnancy.
- Teamwork and Communication: Enhance your ability to lead a team, work effectively as a team member, and utilise structured communication skills, including effective patient handovers.
- End-of-Life Decision-Making: Explore ethical considerations and decision-making processes related to end-of-life care.
What does it cost?
There is a registration fee applicable to this workshop.
You may be eligible to apply for funding to support the costs of conference/workshop registration, travel, and accommodation expenses through the Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP).
