Aboriginal Health
Rural Doctors Network (RDN) has a long history of working in partnership with Aboriginal people and organisations to increase access to health services for Aboriginal people, particularly those living in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. We support Aboriginal health organisations by providing:
- Services to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) and Other Aboriginal Health Services for GP recruitment and retention
- Outreach programs, providing funds for health professionals including GPs, nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers, allied health providers and medical specialists to provide health services in areas with significant Aboriginal populations
- Indigenous rural-resident Medical Officer Cadetships
- Partnerships with the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) in joint medical workforce initiatives
- GP locum support
- Health workforce scholarship program
RDN's Reconciliation Action Plan & Aboriginal Engagement Strategy
RDN’s Aboriginal Engagement Strategy (AES) was initiated in August 2017 as a key organisational development initiative to reinforce RDN’s commitment to Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to ensure that future activities are evidence-based, effective and tangibly contribute to improving access to quality primary healthcare services for Aboriginal people. Reconciliation Australia has endorsed RDN's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which forms part of RDN’s overall Aboriginal Engagement Strategy.
