The Variety Flying Start Paediatric Program is being described as “a game-changer” according to a recent report in The Coonamble Times.

The Program provides free access to paediatricians for children living in rural and remote communities – providing equity in access to vital supports for families, closer to home. It brings together a multidisciplinary team of local and visiting clinicians to deliver holistic paediatric assessments to children up to 18 years.

After a reported ten years without a service to the town, The Coonamble Times says the town could see regular paediatric visits every month at the Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS).*

Delivered in partnership with the Local Health District and funded until the end of the financial year, the clinics are part of an expansion of Marathon Health’s Flying Start program after it received funding from Rural Doctors Network (RDN) last month.

*A Marathon spokesperson told The Coonamble Times they will advocate for further funding and the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health is evaluating the program.
