Care Partnership Diabetes patient story: Mitchell Cain

22nd July 2024

Kamilaroi man, Mitchell Cain, who lives with type 2 diabetes and lost his leg due to complications, has shared his story to encourage others to take simple steps to stay healthy, identify diabetes early and manage the condition.

“The struggles are real, don’t think that it won’t happen,” Mitchell said.

“You’ve got to make the right decisions yourself, for family, for friends – do what you have to. Insulin - take it, eat right, eat healthy, see your GP regularly, talk to other people that have diabetes. Don’t think that’s it’s shame – it’s not shame.”

Living Better & Stronger and Care Partnership – Diabetes is a collaboration between the Western NSW Local Health District, the Western NSW PHN and RDN which aims to improve health outcomes for people living with type 2 diabetes in Western NSW.
