New doctor welcomed to the Wee Waa community

Dr Chiraji Thilakaratne has recently joined the team at Wee Waa Medical Centre, providing much needed support to the community as the practice’s second General Practitioner (GP), alongside Dr Sivanathan.

Dr Thilakaratne began her medical career in rural Sri Lanka, before moving to Sydney and then to Wee Waa with her young family. Her areas of interest are child health, women’s health and minor procedures, and she is currently working towards Fellowship.

She says from day one she felt fully welcomed to the community and into the practice.

“It has been a great pleasure to move to the beautiful town of Wee Waa, and I am excited to be working at the Wee Waa Medical Centre alongside Dr Sivanathan and the friendly practice staff,” said Dr Thilakaratne. 

Practice Manager at Wee Waa Medical Centre, Dharshini Sivanathan, says it was a long search to find another GP to join the practice, and the support provided by NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) was priceless.

“RDN has been providing continuous support while we searched for a candidate, and it was a pleasure to work with RDN’s Recruitment Consultants.

“We are very pleased that Dr Thilakaratne has joined us, and we know she is already a great addition to the community,” said Dharshini.

RDN’s Recruitment Services Manager, Chris Anderson, says it was great to be able to support the practice team throughout their hard work securing Dr Thilakaratne, and we welcome her to the community.

“The team and I at RDN are very pleased that Dr Thilakaratne has joined the practice, she will be a great resource, and even better the community will benefit from the increased access to health care,” said Chris.

Dr Thilakaratne joins a dedicated practice team at Wee Waa Medical Centre, including colleague Lyn Brown, who has worked as a Medical Receptionist at the medical centre for 54 years. Practice Manager Dharshini says Lyn’s contribution and service to the Wee Waa community is outstanding.

The team at Wee Waa Medical Centre are proud to be able to increase their services to the community with Dr Thilakaratne onboard, including continuing to operate their COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
