Advanced Life Support 2
You're invited to attend RDN's Advanced Life Support 2 course at Rydges Port Macquaire on 27-28 March. This intensive two-day course focuses on developing advanced skills in managing deteriorating patients and cardiac arrest.
This course is designed for healthcare professionals expected to apply these skills as part of their clinical duties or to teach them regularly. Appropriate participants include doctors and nurses working in critical care areas, members of resuscitation/medical emergency teams, and paramedics.
Candidates will receive the ALS 2 manual one month prior to the course and are required to complete a 120-question multiple-choice test before the course begins. Prior skills and competence in CPR are essential prerequisites for attending the course.
The ALS 2 course teaches the knowledge and skills required to:
- Recognise, assess, and manage the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest)
- Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation
- Manage life-threatening arrhythmias
- Prepare and plan for post-resuscitation care
- Care for deteriorating patients or patients in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and pregnancy
- Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills, including giving an effective handover
- Consider end-of-life decision-making
This workshop is fully accredited with the Australian Resuscitation Council and is accredited for CPD and PDP with RACGP and ACRRM.
This workshop is followed by RDN and RDA NSW's Rural GPs Refresher Conference. Consider attending both to make the most of your time away. There will be a link to register when you complete your registration.
Please note, you may be eligible to apply for funds to support the costs of conference/workshop registration, travel and accommodation expenses through the Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP).
