Indigenous Eye Health Unit webinar series
NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) invites you to attend the free Indigenous Eye Health Unit webinar series (IEHU).
Session one - Tuesday 21 September
Improving access and outcomes to eye care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians: Overview of the sector's work
Over the past ten years, the broader sector's work towards improving access to eye care and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians has evolved, and while eye care outcomes have improved, inequities and other challenges persist. This presentation will give a broad overview of the collective work within the sector, including national policy frameworks, advocacy, and collaborations across national as well as jurisdictional and regional/local level over the past 10 years of work. This presentation will discuss some of the emerging priorities followed by a live Q&A.
Session two - Tuesday 28 September
An insight into culturally appropriate eye health promotion and awareness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Health promotion and awareness are key recommendations within the Roadmap to Close the Gap for Vison (2012) to improve eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This webinar will provide an insight into the importance of culturally appropriate health promotion, and share examples of successful approaches including the national roll out of ‘Check Today, See Tomorrow‘ to support diabetes eye care, and implementation of the Bunjils Mirring Nganga-djak project to improve eye examination rates as part the Eastern Metropolitan Melbourne Aboriginal Eye Health Regional Stakeholder group. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions in a live Q&A.
