Ear Bus Project is on the road

(27/5/15)

Rural children will soon benefit from the new Hear Our Hearts Ear Bus Project initiative that aims to improve ear health across Western NSW. The initiative covers Dubbo and surrounding districts and there are future plans to have the Ear Bus on the road regularly, going to schools and childcare centres to educate and test students so that hearing issues can be addressed in a timely manner.

The service is supported through RDN’s Healthy Ears (HEBHBL) outreach program that is funded by the Australian Government. RDN has partnered with Western NSW Medicare Local and other local organisations like Hear Our Hearts to provide the audiometry and audiology services that will increase access to the detection and diagnosis of ear disease.

The ear health team will also facilitate referrals and access for Aboriginal children to a Healthy Ears-funded, ENT procedural service that is currently being developed in partnership with Western NSW Local Health District.

For more information about Healthy-Ears services, see the HEBHBL Service Delivery Standards on the RDN website.
