Australian graduates

As an Australian Medical Graduate* with General Registration within Australia your choice to follow General Practice will use most of the skills you have already received during training. You may have already used many of these very same skills in an Intern or Junior Medical Officer position.

General Practice takes you beyond this to provide continuing whole person care to patients of all ages. Rural General Practice can offer you a huge variety of experiences and life long friendships along the way that can be very difficult to establish in metropolitan practices.

Rural General Practice can give you a sense of pride and satisfaction in participating in the well being of a community in a significant way. The well known benefits of choosing a rural lifestyle for yourself and your family include clean air, education with smaller and more intimate class sizes and a lower cost of living, all while being within just a few hours (usually) from facilities in larger regional cities.

If you have general registration and are a pre-1996 graduate and/or you are vocationally registered, there are many GP positions available to you in rural NSW. Please Search GP Vacancies for these positions and view the RDN Grants that may help you upskill or relocate to your new town.

For post-1996 Australian or New Zealand graduates who are not yet vocationally registered, there are also many GP positions on the Search GP Vacancies page for you to choose from. You can also access a Provider Number through the More Doctors for Rural Australia Program

* Australian or New Zealand Graduates who were/are temporary residents may be subject to further restrictions on gaining a Medicare Provider Number (Section 19AB of the Health Insurance Act). Please note that the NSW Rural Doctors Network will assist you to find a suitable position.
